About
Thanet Locksmiths Ltd

Your Local, Trusted Locksmith in Thanet.

When you call Thanet Locksmiths, you won’t be connected to a national call centre or automated system. You’ll speak directly with Ian Stevenson, a local locksmith who lives and works here in Thanet.

With over 35 years of experience in the security industry and more than six years serving the local community as a professional locksmith, I provide reliable, honest, and high-quality locksmith services to homes and businesses across Margate, Cliftonville, Broadstairs, and the surrounding Thanet villages. Thanet Locksmiths was founded in 2019 with a simple goal: to provide a trustworthy local locksmith service built on skill, transparency, and fair pricing.

👤 About Ian
Hi, I’m Ian, the founder of Thanet Locksmiths Ltd and your local emergency locksmith covering Ramsgate, Margate, Broadstairs, Birchington, and Westgate.
As an independent, SIA-licensed local locksmith with over 35 years of security industry experience, I provide an honest, personal service from a local family business you can trust—not a national call centre or a newly trained subcontractor.
Whether you need to gain entry after a lockout, require professional snapped key extraction, or want to upgrade your property to the latest high-security cylinders, I’m here to help. Every installation comes with a full 12-month workmanship guarantee, and we always provide free, fixed, upfront quotes so there are never any hidden surprises.
I understand that a lock problem is always urgent. That’s why we provide a rapid-response emergency call-out service across Thanet from 7 AM to 10 PM daily. We aim to get to you within 30 minutes, using non-destructive entry methods wherever possible to get you safely back inside without unnecessary damage or expense. We accept cash, credit/debit cards, and contactless on-site via our secure SumUp machine to make a stressful situation as smooth as possible.
No job is too big or too small. For fast help or friendly security advice, call Ian today on 07971 849358 or 01843 278928 — let’s get your security sorted.

The “Honest Locksmith” Approach

We don’t believe in “lock gods.” No locksmith can open every single lock in the world, and anyone who says they can isn’t being honest. At Thanet Locksmiths Ltd, my reputation is built entirely on integrity, skill, and upfront clarity.
  • Non-Destructive Entry First: I use specialized tools and 35 years of security industry training to help you gain entry without damaging your door or lock mechanism whenever possible.
  • No “Drill-First” Tactics: Unlike national call centre operations that immediately reach for a drill to run up an expensive bill, I always prioritize professional lock picking and expert bypass techniques.
  • Transparent Fixed Pricing: I believe in fair, upfront costs instead of hidden surprises. We quote your job clearly over the phone before any tools touch your door, so you know exactly what you are paying before I even arrive.
  • No Call-Out Fees For Booked Work: We do not charge a call-out fee when you book us to complete a job. If you simply require an on-site security inspection or a diagnostic quote without any work being carried out, we charge a clear, flat £40 assessment fee to cover our time and fuel.

Why Choose a Local Independent?

In an age of impersonal national franchises, choosing a local independent like me ensures:

  • Rapid Response: I know the shortcuts through Ramsgate, Margate, and Broadstairs to get to you fast.

  • Personal Accountability: The person you speak to on the phone (Ian) is the person who turns up at your door.

  • Local Knowledge: From Victorian mortice locks in Ramsgate to modern uPVC gearboxes in Cliftonville, I know the common security issues facing Thanet homes.

  • Expanding for You: While Thanet is my home, I now also provide expert service to Deal, Sandwich, and Herne Bay.

New locks installed.

Whether your locked out or need your existing locks replaced, we are here for you.
